GOURMET steak has landed in Oxford to compete with the city centre’s kebab vans.
Gourdans Steak Frites, run by Matt Jeffery and his wife Tina, won a coveted night-time High Street berth earlier this year in a four-way battle for two city spots.
The couple, who finally moved their van in this week, will serve gourmet steak and chips from 7-11pm Wednesday to Sunday from now on.
Mr Jeffery said: “We hope to offer something different to people in Oxford, whether it’s students or professionals working in the city – everybody who likes their food and has an educated palate.
The Begbroke man said the new Westgate centre – set to open next month down the road from his van – would be a positive for his business.
He said: “We are hoping to be part of its success, it should be good for the whole city as it will increase footfall in the area.”
