They may be faceless online but the key to stopping cyber criminals is to understand who they are, new research suggests.
Sociologists from Oxford University have published a paper based on interviews carried out in Romania which reveals location and economics are key.
Co-author Professor Federico Varese said: "The people involved are not necessarily sophisticated or even high tech criminal masterminds.
"They are everyday people with a motivation and an opportunity. Almost anyone can do it."
