A MAN whose house was cordoned off by police following his ‘unexplained’ death has been named locally as Scott Tarrant.

It is understood that Mr Tarrant, of Hughes Close, Charlbury, was pronounced dead by paramedics at about 11.30pm on Monday.

Police, who remained at the house until Tuesday afternoon, confirmed a 40-year-old man had died and said the death was being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.

Freda Pratley, 90, who lived next door to the 40-year-old and his partner, said: “I’ve never seen so many police in all my life. He died at about 11.30pm. She [his partner] came out crying.

“It is a shock and I feel sorry for him.”

Police arrived at the scene on Monday night shortly after the ambulance. Mrs Pratley and others say officers wearing white overalls could be seen entering and leaving the building.

The body was taken away at about 4pm on Tuesday.

Malcolm and Gwendoline Dixon, who live across the road, were going to bed on Monday night when they saw the ambulance in the street.

Mrs Dixon said: “If it wasn’t for the ambulance we would have went to bed, but we saw it through the window and wondered what had happened. We do like to know what’s going on in the neighbourhood.

“We knew that something serious had happened when we saw an officer get into white overalls.”

A force spokesman said a file would be prepared for the coroner and that no arrests had been made.
