A SUMMERTOWN gallery welcomed a series of paintings from up-and-coming artist Peter Kettle with the launch of a new exhibition.

The Sarah Wiseman Gallery at South Parade launched the exhibition 'On Meadow and River' by the Welsh artist on Saturday.

The series of 34 paintings depict the 'wide expanses and gentle hills' of Oxfordshire.

Director at the gallery Sarah Wiseman said: "When Peter applied to the gallery I thought there was something very interesting and passionate about the work.

"For the past few years we really loved his Wales paintings, there is a lot of affinity here for it.

"We then had a discussion about what the exhibition could be like and how to expand his work."

The paintings in his latest collection were inspired by various walks around Oxfordshire beginning along the Glyme Valley Way from Chipping Norton to Woodstock before taking in Christchuch Meadow and Oxford itself.

Ms Wiseman said that so far the public response to the artwork had been very positive and added: "It has been wonderful. People have really, really enjoyed them.

"They have been really quite captivated and you can really recognise parts of the landscape in them."

The exhibition is open until January 28.
