Candice Brown won the final of The Great British Bake Off, a correct prediction from Christine Wallace, a former contestant on the BBC hit series.

Candice took on Jane Beedle and Andrew Smyth tonight in the final of the series, and it was the last ever episode on the BBC after Channel 4 bought out the show.

Mrs Wallace said earlier she was saddened by the news that the popular BBC TV show was moving to Channel 4.

The baking contest hosted by Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc has proved an unbeatable recipe with episodes regularly bringing in 10 million viewers.

Mrs Wallace was a contestant in 2013 and has fond memories of reaching the quarter-finals.

Before tonight's final Mrs Wallace said: "It's going to be a very close call and it's a difficult choice but I think Candice is going to win it.

"She has been a consistent performer all the way through but so has Jane and Andrew has been very precise with his baking.

"Whoever wins will instantly become very marketable - look what has happened to Nadiya.

"Even if you don't win you can make a career out of it - I have been having a fantastic time.

"The other day I did a cookery demonstration at the Betjeman Festival in Wantage and met some lovely people there.

"I felt like I should be wearing black instead of my chef's whites because the Bake Off show is moving to Channel 4."

Mrs Wallace lives with husband Rob in Didcot.

He runs a laser engraving company in Moulsford and makes cake stands for Mrs Wallace in his spare time.
