BUSINESSES, schools and organisations across Oxfordshire will take part in The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to raise vital funds for the fight against cancer.

Events will be held for Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest annual fundraising event tomorrow as the charity hopes to beat last year’s total of £25m.

Locations throughout the county will be doing their bit for the charity by selling coffee, tea and cakes, and are inviting everyone along to come and show their support.

Year 6 pupils at North Hinksey Primary School have been preparing for the day by making cakes and treats to sell on the morning.

Teaching assistant Marianne Bowers said: "The children have been researching the work Macmillan do. They understand it and realise they can make a difference.

"They’ve been advertising the event and inviting people, as well as doing their own baking, and they’ll be running the morning themselves.

"It's amazing. They’re determined to do the best they can."

Annie Scott, 10, said: "I think it's a really good way to raise money because it's fun and a really good idea."

Anybody is welcome to visit the school for a coffee and cake between 8.30am and 10.30am.

The youngsters at North Hinksey are not the only ones in Oxfordshire getting in on the action.

Blenheim Palace will join the fundraiser in its acclaimed Orangery Restaurant. Their event will take place from 10am to midday and will be catered by award-winning company, Searcy’s.

Michael and Company hairdressers in the Kidlington Centre will host its own coffee morning from 9am to midday. As well as refreshments, there will be a raffle to help raise funds for the charity.

In Witney, Rapture records shop will join the event from 10am. Visitors can head upstairs to the store's coffee shop where they can view records, have a coffee and socialise.

The Oxford Gun Company in Oakley is also supporting the cause with its cake and clays events tomorrow and Saturday.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.

Each year Macmillan mails out "coffee kits" for those wishing to host their own event.

Last year alone £25 million was raised and this year they aim to raise even more.

Since 1990 people all over the UK have been hosting their own coffee mornings to contribute to the event.
