TWENTY schoolchildren with low household incomes made the most of a Latin course to help them apply for Oxford and Cambridge.

Lee’s Classics Academy was launched by Harrow School student Chang Heon Lee to encourage state school pupils to apply for top tier universities.

City-based company Oxford Education Group covered the cost of accommodation, food and learning resources for the 20 pupils last month.

Alison Taylor said the course gave her 13-year-old daughter Isabella a “new found self-confidence.”

She said: “The course encouraged her to think outside the box using a mixture of research, exploration and debating activities, helping to further develop her analytical, presentation and communication skills within a group.

“At the end of each day she was excited to share with us what she had learnt. The course helped her develop a new found self-confidence , opening her eyes to the opportunities that university would present and instilling within her the drive to apply to top tier universities.
