Land at the former Didcot A Power Station is set to be transformed into a housing and commercial hub after outline planning permission was granted tonight.

Around 400 hundred homes, 110,00 sqm of business and warehouse space, 25,000 sqm of industrial and office space, 13,000 sqm of retail space, including a 1,500 sqm convenient store, and 150 bed hotel are all part of the major scheme.

Vale of White Horse district councillors were impressed with Clowes Developments Ltd’s proposed £2 million contribution towards the completion of the Science Bridge - which would cross the A4130.

But concerns were raised about whether the influx of jobs the development would create could be met with housing the housing supply.

Cllr Dudley Hoddinott said: "I'm concerned about the balance of employment and housing.

"With the influx of jobs this will create  will there be enough housing?"

It was announced 280 homes in the development would be classed as affordable.

Cllr Ben Mabbett endorsed the plans and said: "I think it is an appropriate redevelopment of a site and I think it will contribute to the local community well."

A further meeting will be held to discuss and approve the details of the site.
