HOUSE prices and the city's transport system were among the top concerns voiced by festival-goers this weekend.

Oxford City Council joined Florence Park's Flofest event on Saturday, gathering residents' views on what the city should look like in 20 years' time.

Planning policy team leader Rachel Williams said residents who spoke to her staff were worried about struggling to afford rent and being unable to buy their own house.

She said people mentioned to the team they had been forced to take up a second job or rent out a room in their homes to get by.

Mrs Williams said the city council may also need to focus on improving transport links across Oxford after concerns raised by many at the festival.

The consultation at Flofest was the first of several events set to take place over the next five weeks as the council works on drawing up a new Local Plan which sets out where development can take place.

Mrs Williams said: "We thought we would get out where people are and try and engage with a range of people.

"We want to try and reach as many people as we can and gather a range of concerns so we have got a good idea of what Oxford is looking for and hoping for."

Residents' views will be considered when the council draws up a draft Local Plan, which will be consulted on next summer.

City council staff will next visit the Leys Festival this Saturday between noon and 4pm.
