HARCOURT Arboretum has installed what it describes as the ‘UK’s first carbon neutral eco arc’ as part of a new welcome centre to be opened this year.
Oxford University, which runs the plant research facility in Nuneham Courtenay, plans to open the centre in March.
Visitors to the arc will be able to get a 365-degree view of the arboretum’s vast collection of trees from around the world.
The park will also have a gift shop for the first time.
The new welcome centre has been developed by Green Unit, a “green building” designer-manufacturer, and installed at the site by Oxfordshire construction firm Beard.
Company project manager James Posselwhite said: “It enables energy efficient buildings to be put together from a range of off-the-shelf sectional components.”
The arc, developed by Oxford graduate and Green Unit director Philip Clayden, is made from sustainable materials.
