DEVELOPERS appear to have eased concerns over a Botley housing estate as new homeowners look set to move into the area.

An ongoing dispute over large vehicles using a single-track residential road into the site has been resolved as Persimmon Homes confirmed more houses are to come.

Once the development is finished a total of 130 houses will be on the land off Eynsham Road, Botley.

Worries about large vehicles using Tilbury Lane – a single-track access road – had caused problems.

Cumnor and North Hinksey parish councils had both said the access point was a problem and disruptive to residents living near the site.

Persimmon has since met with both councils and is believed to have hired a guard to monitor the lane’s gate.

Botley councillor Debby Hallett said: “I know that change and growth can be often accompanied by pain, and these new developments aren’t an exception.

“Access to Tilbury Fields has been a challenge since the first planning application was considered.

“But I see the developers are now trying to work effectively with local people to solve the problems.”

Mrs Hallett said the influx was a positive thing for the area and showed Botley was doing its part.

She said: “Obviously Botley is an attractive place to live, grow up, and grow old.

“Our recent housing completions mean Botley is doing its part to provide the new houses this country needs, and that’s very good.

“But there are a lot of new people to welcome to Botley.”

Charles Church, part of developer Persimmon Homes, said that in phase one 42 houses were put on the market and 38 have been sold so far.

A further 10 have now been put up for sale and the developer announced that 90 more would follow once they are completed.

Half of the homes are on one side of the road in Cumnor parish and the other half in North Hinksey parish.

Head of sales at Charles Church, Greg Kaye, said the homes had attracted a mix of people.

He said: “The site has proved very popular with many different elements – professional workers, retired people who are downsizing and a good number of families.”

He added: “Nearly all of our residents are people from the local area who have clearly acknowledged Botley is a charming and picturesque village in which to live – retaining very close links to Oxford without being in the actual heart of the city.”

The development will have a mixture of two, three, four and five-bedroom houses.

Currently four and five bedroom houses are on the market starting from around £400,000.
