PEOPLE have been urged to nominate unsung heroes at the county’s NHS hospitals as part of an annual awards scheme.

The Hospital Heroes awards, now in their third year, are run by the Oxford Mail and Oxford University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust (OUHFT).

Nominations opened earlier this year and Oxford East MP Andrew Smith has urged people to take the opportunity to put forward their heroes.

Mr Smith said: “Patients and their families really value caring NHS staff.

“It’s good to give thanks and recognition for all those who do so much for patients, especially when they are so often working under pressure.

“Letting staff know their caring is so valued is a great morale-booster and good for the NHS.”

The campaign to find the county’s medical champion was launched in 2013 with the 65th anniversary of the NHS.

Readers can nominate staff working across the trust’s sites, such as nurses, midwives, porters, consultants, healthcare assistants and volunteers.

Nominations for people who have transformed the lives of patients are open in two categories, the Hospital Heroes Individual Award and the Hospital Heroes Team award.
