HUMAN rights campaigner Shami Chakrabarti and former Oxford Brookes Vice-Chancellor Professor Janet Beer were awarded honorary degrees at a graduation ceremony yesterday.
The pair joined hundreds of students also collecting degrees at the university’s Headington Campus.
Prof Beer left her role at Brookes earlier this year after seven years at the institution, to take up a new post at the University of Liverpool.
She is also a member of the Higher Education Policy Institute’s Advisory Board.
Ms Chakrabarti CBE was Chancellor of Brookes from 2006-15 when she handed over to Olympic rowing champion Katherine Grainger.
She has been director of human rights campaign group Liberty since 2003.
