VITAL funds to provide aid for flood victims in Pakistan are being raised in a series of street collections at Oxford mosques.

Pakistan-born Oxford city councillor Saj Malik, who still has family in the country, has organised collections at the Stanley Road and central mosques.

He has now drummed up £6,000 which will buy food and other essentials for families hit by floods in the Rajantur region of Pakistan.

The fund will provide those returning to their ruined homes with a 15-day aid parcel – each package costs just £20.

Mr Malik said: “Whenever I have gone to the community for help people have never let me down.”

The last collection will take place on Friday at the central mosque at about 2pm.

Mr Malik will fly to Pakistan next Tuesday to deliver the aid.

He added: “We make sure we are only giving aid to the poor and those who really need it.”

You can donate until Sunday – call Mr Malik on 07787 874683.
