FAMILIES enjoyed an Asian-inspired day at the University of Oxford’s Harcourt Arboretum earlier this week.

Tegan Bennett, who works at the arboretum, organised a family activity day with the theme of Asia, as part of the the third week of the ‘Cool Continents’ events.

She made models of Japanese Saikei planted landscapes and kites based on animals found in the arboretum.

Ms Bennett said: “We are offering family-friendly events every week in the school holidays and this summer we’ve chosen continents as the theme. This reflects the trees from around the world we have here.”

Harcourt Arboretum has been part of the University of Oxford since 1963. The site is made up of 130 acres containing the best collection of trees in Oxfordshire with some of the oldest redwoods in the UK. It is open all through the year.

The next family fun activity, as part of ‘Cool Continents’ is on Tuesday, August 25 from 1pm to 4pm, with the theme of Europe. The activities are designed for children aged four to 11 but all ages are welcome.
