VETERAN television weatherman Bill Giles cut the ribbon at his village’s new-look post office.

Mr Giles, pictured centre in the light suit, lives near Chinnor Post Office and is a regular customer.

The post office recently spent two weeks refurbishing facilities inside, to make the store double the size and with a new open-plan layout.

The new office will also open an extra five hours on Saturday afternoons, when it used to close at 12.30pm.

Mr Giles said he was “delighted” to be officiating and thanked the new post office manager for overseeing the improvements.

Bal Bains, owner of the village’s Spar store, recently became the postmaster for Chinnor and took the decision to modernise the post office and shop.

He doubled the retail area for stationery and cards by removing the former sorting office at the back of the premises.

He also created a new financial services room at the back of the store.

Mr Bains said: “Everything has been modernised and customers like the light, bright modern look and layout.”
