WOMEN’S Institute members will be looking forward to a steamer trip and open-top bus tour in Oxford today, celebrating 100 years of the WI.
The centenary baton arrived in Oxfordshire this week and will be making its way around 125 WIs across the county until Sunday.
Members of the Thames Valley group of the WI received the baton at Aston Tirrold village hall on Tuesday.
The baton has been on a year-long journey through WI organisations across the UK that will culminate with a celebration at the Royal Albert Hall in June.
Shirley Bryant, 75, group convenor for the Thames Valley group, said: “It was like a party.”
The group also enjoyed a talk from Julie Summers, who wrote Jambusters, a history of the WI’s involvement in the Second World War.
