THAMES Water have begun “urgent” repairs on a collapsed sewer on Banbury Road, Oxford, today.

The firm said the pipe, outside the Dancing Dragon on the junction of Grove Street, needs to be fixed as soon as possible to prevent the road surface collapsing.

Two-way traffic lights will be operated between 7am and 7pm from today.

Project manager Ian Smith said: “We are acutely aware of how our work will impact people living n earby and those who drive in and out of the city, but this work is absolutely necessary.

“If we did nothing, properties would be flooded with sewage and the road surface would collapse, risking the safety of those on the street.”
