A PUB boss and building company director was described as either “the unluckiest man in the world” or “a drug dealer” by a barrister in Oxford Crown Court.

Yesterday prosecutor Michael Roques gave his closing speech in the trial of Ryan Davies, 33, who is accused of being part of a drugs conspiracy.

Davies, of Kelburne Road, Cowley, denies any involvement in a plot to supply cocaine, a Class A drug, between August 15 and October 12 last year.

Mr Roques said phone records showed he was in regular contact with Gavin Preston, 35, of Astrop Lane, Oxford, who has admitted being part of the conspiracy.

The barrister said calls between the defendant and Preston also took place immediately after Preston had spoken to the man supplying him with cocaine.

He said Davies, who runs the Black Swan, East Oxford, also repeatedly visited a garage in Kersington Crescent, Littlemore.

This was found to contain 10kg of cutting agents, electronic scales, a hydraulic press and 1.68g of cocaine inside ripped plastic packaging. Preston’s fingerprint was also found inside the garage, he added.

Mr Roques said: “The only person associated with both Gavin Preston and that garage is the defendant. There is simply no two ways about it. And if that is right he must be guilty of the offences on this indictment.

“He’s got to be either the unluckiest man in the world or he’s a drug dealer.”

The trial continues.
