A FORMER Oxford Cheetahs speedway racer has said he is “gutted” after the theft of a priceless motorbike and another from his garage.

Two Yamaha TT500s, a model never sold in the United Kingdom, were stolen from Spencer Timmo’s home in Horspath between 11pm on Monday and 8am yesterday.

Mr Timmo said it was impossible to put a price on one of the bikes, a 1980 model with zero miles on the clock that he believes is unique in the UK.

The 48-year-old said: “It is from a private collection in the United States and the other one is its sister bike, it’s worth about £6,000.

“I got up this morning and at about 8am I noticed the garage door was open and the bikes were gone.

“I am just really, really gutted.”

Mr Timmo was born in New Zealand and moved to Oxford in 1988 to compete for the Oxford Cheetahs, who raced at the Oxford Stadium in Cowley.

His father, Rick Timmo, raced for a number of teams including the Oxford Rebels.

  • One of the stolen bikes

Both bikes are black and white with silver mudguards and an alloy tank, a very rare feature on Japanese bikes.

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Hannah Williams confirmed it was investigating the theft.

She said: “Offenders entered the garage through the house and wheeled the bikes out of the garage door.’’
