A man killed in a house fire probably died from smoke inhalation, a coroner said yesterday.

An inquest was opened into the death of Christopher Butler, 55, who was found after a blaze at his home in Wilsdon Way, Kidlington, on Friday, September 5.

Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court heard how the retired psychiatric charge nurse, who was single, was discovered unconscious in his bedroom by firefighters.

He was taken outside but paramedics could not revive him.

Coroner Darren Salter said further investigations were needed. The inquest was adjourned until January.
