AN adventurer based in Oxfordshire has successfully kayaked across an Alaskan archipelago spanning 1,200 miles.

Oxford University graduate Sarah Outen, 29, is undertaking a global expedition in stages, starting and finishing in London, using only vehicles powered by people, such as rowing boats and bicycles.

This week Miss Outen, who lives in Blewbury, announced that her gruelling 101-day trip across the Aleutian Islands – which span some 1,900 kilometres – was complete, after starting on Adak Island and finishing in Homer.

She tweeted: “Super super chuffed to make it to Homer today after an amazing kayaking adventure with my good pal Justine these last 101 days.”

From Homer, she intends to ride a bicycle through Canada and on to the east coast of the United States.

She will then proceed home to the UK by rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
