IS it a bird? Is it a plane?

No, it was the RAF Falcons parachute display team in freefall over Oxford.

Adi Webb, 48, had been sitting in his mum June’s garden in Raymund Road, Marston having a cup of coffee on Wednesday at about 2pm when she pointed out their vivid red, white and blue colours in the sky.

The technician, who works at Siemens in Eynsham, said: “She thought it was a couple of planes doing something but then I looked up and realised it was a parachute display team.

“I was looking towards the John Radcliffe Hospital from Cherwell Drive but they must have jumped from over Oxford.”

Mr Webb, who went to air shows as a youngster, added: “It was a bit of a shock seeing them because you think ‘where are they going to land around here as it’s all built up?’”

It turns out the Falcons, who are based at RAF Brize Norton, were performing ahead of the RAF Cup Final, between RAF Benson and Fife’s RAF Leuchars at Skrill Conference North side Oxford City’s Marsh Lane ground, which started at 2.30pm.

Oxfordshire came out on top in the match, with Benson beating their counterparts from Scotland 2-0.
