A TEENAGE girl has told a jury the 40-year-old woman she allegedly had sex with knew she was just 15 before the encounter took place.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was giving evidence at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, in the trial of Oxford radio presenter Emma Stanfield, who denies three counts of sexual activity with a child and another of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child.

Yesterday’s proceedings were temporarily halted as Stanfield said she was going to be sick.

It is alleged Stanfield was drinking vodka with a friend’s 16-year-old daughter in Blackbird Leys last May when the complainant was introduced to her.

The court was told Stanfield, of Chapel Street, East Oxford, and the two girls went to the community centre in Blackbird Leys where radio station OX105 was based.

In cross-examination, defence barrister Lucy Tapper asked the girl, now aged 16, about Stanfield’s job.

She said: “You thought you could be on to something, a good thing.”

The teenager replied: “She was mature and seemed like she cared.

“It sort of showed to me she was a normal woman.”

After presenting her radio show, the court was told Stanfield returned to the house and the complainant said they then engaged in sexual acts, before heading back to Stanfield’s home where further sexual acts took place.

Suggesting that the girl only told Stanfield her real age the next morning after the incidents, Miss Tapper said: “You had a conversation in Emma’s bed about your real age. You say that is not how it was. You confessed that you weren’t 16.

“You were in fact only 15 and that’s when the conversation about the potential penalties, punishments or consequences took place.”

The girl said: “That’s not right.”

Giving evidence, the complainant’s friend, 16 at the time, and who also cannot be named, said she told Stanfield at the beginning of the day that her friend was only 15.

Miss Tapper said: “You allowed Emma to believe (the complainant) was the same age as you.”

She replied: “No. I told her she was 15.”

Michael Riley, prosecuting, said during Stanfield’s police interview after she was arrested on June 7 last year she gave a “no comment” interview throughout.

The trial continues.
