The Pembroke College footbridge across Oxford’s Brewer Street, has won an award for the best pedestrian bridge in the international Structural Awards 2013 held in London. College bursar John Church said: “It is not something done very often in Oxford, having a footbridge across a medieval wall.”
The bridge opened in spring as part of a £30m development at the college and the award was collected last Friday by Price and Myers, the structural engineers.
The Bishop Edward King Chapel at Ripon College, in Cuddesdon, was praised in the community and residential structures section for a design, which embraces sustainability and structural innovation.
