IT IS the love-liest day of the year – and for a couple who first met on a train, Valentine’s Day was the perfect occasion to start their journey into married life.
Cho Hmone, 27, said she felt like the luckiest girl in the world after tying the knot with Kyaw Lu, her fiancé of four-and-a-half years.
The pair, who live together in Tadley, were married by 10.30am at Basingstoke Register Office, in London Road, watched by more than 20 delighted family members and friends.
Kyaw, a software engineer at Baughurst-based technology firm Wood & Douglas, surprised his girlfriend when he proposed at the top of the London Eye on New Year’s Day this year. He then pulled out all the stops to set up a romantic Valentine’s Day wedding.
“The 14th of February is a remarkable day for us to get married,” said 25-year-old Kyaw. “It makes it that little bit more special for both of us.”
The newly-weds first met on a train at Birmingham when Kyaw overheard Cho speaking to a friend on the phone in his native Burmese.
The pair will soon travel back to Burma’s capital Rangoon for a second wedding with family, before taking a honeymoon tour of the country.
Cho, a computer programmer, said she could not be happier. She said: “When he proposed on January 1 in London, it was amazing. I was in shock – it was very special for me.
“And now the wedding is special too. I was shaking through the whole thing, but I could not stop smiling. I am so happy.”
