Oxford Mail: Rovers fan Roy Richards Rovers fan Roy Richards

OXFORD United fans will raise money for the family of a Bristol Rovers supporter who helped with an appeal.

Roy Richards, pictured, raised £250 from fellow Pirates fans during the Oxford-Rovers game in 2011 to help buy new limbs for Charlotte Nott, five, of Brasenose Driftway, Oxford, who had parts of her arms and legs amputated after suffering from meningitis.

But just hours after his fundraising efforts, Mr Richards suffered a heart attack and died three days later.

Now Oxford United fans will raise money for his family during today’s home game against Rovers, the first time the teams have met at the Kassam Stadium since Mr Richards died.

Organiser David Cudd, 55, said: “All of us Oxford fans were gutted when we found out.”

Mr Cudd has visited Oxford United and Bristol Rovers fan websites and received support from both sets of supporters.

He will have a table in the marquee outside The Priory, near the stadium, from noon to 3pm.
