PRINCE Charles might not be a fan of indietronica or Baroque pop music but he met one of its best known performers yesterday.

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales was shown around St Stephen’s House in East Oxford, where he met singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf who was performing there last night.

The pair discussed Mr Wolf’s eccentric dress sense while Prince Charles was shown around the Marston Street private permanent hall of Oxford University in his first visit to the city since 2009.

He was also shown around The Church of St John the Evangelist, which has recently been completely refurbished and turned into a concert venue.

Mr Wolf, 29, who performed an acoustic song for the Prince but is known for his indietronica or Baroque pop music, said: “He was enjoying my outfit and I told him I was wearing my absolute best for him. He seemed very impressed.”

While at St Stephen’s House, which trains men and women for ordination to the Church of England, the Prince also met with some of the people hoping to become members of the clergy.

He said: “I am so full of admiration for those who have this particular calling. There is huge need for people in the church of real spiritual understanding, those who know how to communicate the essential truth.

“I was so encouraged to hear about the quality of teaching you have here.”

St Stephen’s House was established in the 19th century and is also home to those studying to become teachers.

Canon Robin Ward, the principal of St Stephen’s House, said: “It was a wonderful experience to host Prince Charles today and really encouraging. He showed tremendous interest in everything that goes on here.”
