A NORTHERN Echo reader is snap happy after winning a photography contest.

Phil Horan’s shot of Infinity Bridge, which spans the River Tees at Stockton, will be one of five winning pictures to adorn the carriages of a new train.

The 41-year-old, from Bishop Auckland, entered the Grand Central Hart of the North competition after reading about it in The Northern Echo.

Judges praised his image for featuring a great contrast of colours.

Photographers from across the region took part in the contest to decorate Grand Central’s Hart of the North train from early spring.

To celebrate its additional service between the North-East and London, Grand Central called on readers to submit images reflecting all that is great about the region.

General manager, Sean English, said: “We received many wonderful images that really showcase the best of the region, but this image was particularly noticeable.

“We’re delighted that our train will now unveil the phenomenal scenery and attractions the North-East has to offer.”

Mr Horan, who won a family trip to London on the new train and will be invited to an unveiling ceremony, said: “I think the Infinity Bridge is a really iconic structure and I’m glad that it can be a part of representing the North-East.

“I can’t wait to see the image inside the train carriage.”
