AN OXFORD college last night refused to comment on claims right-wing students are being discriminated against.
Conservative members of the Corpus Christi junior common room have complained of feeling isolated, unwelcome and of being personally attacked, it was reported in The Sunday Times yesterday.
It was reported that they are seeking the creation of a post on the college’s equal opportunities committee to end the perceived discrimination.
It is believed the row stems from an incident at the Merton Street college, when students of various political persuasions were watching the results of the US presidential elections. Conservative students claim they were taunted.
A junior common room – or JCR – is the body which represents students within their college.
Each is run by an elected committee.
Last night the Oxford Mail contacted Corpus Christi College but was told the president, Prof Richard Carwardine, would not comment on the issue.
Oxford University’s Conservative Association says it is believed to be the “largest student political body in Western Europe”.
