Have your say on recreation facilities for new estate
7:20am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in Didcot
RESIDENTS have their chance to influence sports and recreation facilities at Great Western Park estate in Didcot.
Developer Taylor Wimpey is building more than 3,000 homes on land just off the A4130.
Now residents will have the chance to see what the developer has in mind, as well as putting their own views forward.
Town mayor Peter Read said: “We need all the recreation facilities we can get in Didcot.
“The town is vastly under represented in terms of fields and playing grounds.
“You cannot build an estate of this size without massive thought on recreation facilities.”
He added: “It will be important that this is for the whole town rather than just the residents of the estate.”
Taylor Wimpey has pledged to invest £60m in infrastructure needed for the development.
This includes money going towards transport and schools and a large area set aside as open space.
Also planned are sports pitches, tennis courts and a pavilion, along with sport and play facilities for young people and children.
- An exhibition on the developer’s plans takes place between 2pm and 9pm tomorrow and 2pm and 5pm on Friday. at Didcot Civic Hall in Britwell Road. Initial plans for the southern site will also be on display.
