Car flips on A34

A CAR overturned after the driver swerved to avoid a lorry on the A34 this morning.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway, near the Chilton turn-off, at 5.15am.

The driver of the Peugeot 206, a man, was checked over by the ambulance service but had no injuries.

Both lanes of traffic are now flowing freely.

Yet another accident involving lorries on the A34. These lorries, driving side by side, overtaking each other on hills where it takes about a mile to complete the manoeuvre, pulling out without looking and generally bullying other road users, they are a curse on this road. The number of HGV's on the A34 each day is ridiculous.

The car driver swerved to avoid a lorry. Says it all. What, like a sequence in the film Duel or The Terminator. May be a different matter if a northbound lorry had crashed through the central barrier.

Was this a case of tailgating the lorry or indeed tdriving too close without due care and attention.

The A34 is the main carriageway from the south coast to the Midlands so these lorries can be like missiles even when speeding within the limits, so don't expect it to be your local road!

In France, as their motorways usually have two carriageways, then lorries are not permitted to over-take on any uphill sections, and they have signs showing when no lorry over-taking is permitted. We ought to have something similar.
Very vague article, as it doesn't say why he had to swerve...

I was always impressed by the Spanish plated articulated truck that overtook me on the A34, I was doing 70mph he shot past - approching 90mph, more? I find that if you have a badly driven truck it rarely has a UK plate on it. But then it's too difficult to prosecute foreign drivers so we don't. Yet another, all too common, anecdotal example of letting the innocent perish because it's just not worth the self imposed paperwork.

Ive got my own policy. If i see a truck with a foreign plate either stay out of its way or make **** sure you pass it as quickly as possible. Because of the things mentioned here.
Actually same goes for any large vehicle..
