AN ESTEEMED charity stalwart from Didcot has said she will forever cherish memories of her day at the Royal wedding.

Courtney Hughes mingled with A-list celebrities and royalty in Windsor yesterday after earning an invite to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

The 20-year-old set up Charity Secret Santa six years ago and collects, wraps and delivers thousands of gifts every Christmas to the elderly, ill and vulnerable in Oxfordshire.

In recognition of her selfless contribution to the county, which has seen her donate £100,000 worth of gifts, Mayor of Didcot Jackie Billington nominated her to become one of 1,200 inspirational 'special citizens' invited to the big day.

The Didcot Community Hospital nursing assistant took along her mum Claire Hughes and was able to stand right outside St George's Chapel during the ceremony and as guests and the wedding party filed in and out.

She posted an album of photos from the day on Facebook, including of The Queen and Oprah Winfrey, and wrote: "Never did I imagine I would be attending the Royal Wedding.

"It has, however, been one of the highlights of my life.

"I will cherish today's memories forever."

Speaking to the Oxford Mail this morning, she added: "It was a really jolly day, everyone was really happy and the weather was beautiful.

"We saw them all go in - Prince Harry walked in with Prince William and the car went past with Meghan in, then she was waving in the carriage when they came back. She looked so elegant.

"It was a really lovely day."

Miss Hughes proudly wore her British Citizen Award to the wedding, which was bestowed upon her by the Prime Minister last year for her 'tireless commitment' to her cause.
