A LORRY driver 'left traumatised by childhood abuse' was caught with a cache of abusive images involving children and animals.

Martyn Kidd shed tears at Oxford Crown Court as he was shamed for hoarding 219 sexual pictures.

Some were classed as ‘extreme pornography’ involving bestiality, and others depicted ‘distressed’ children aged between five and 13.

At the 55-year-old’s sentencing on Tuesday, the court heard Kidd, of Green Close in Didcot, suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Defending, Nawaz Khan said this was as a result of abuse as a child.

Mr Khan said: “He has expressed remorse and takes responsibility and apologises to the court.

“He does have empathy with the young people depicted.

“These offences weren’t committed gratuitously, but rather as a result of long-term psychological problems.

“It’s clear he is a troubled man.”

The images were found on two laptops seized during a raid on Kidd’s house, on March 29.

One was taken from the dining room table and another from a desk in a spare bedroom.

Of the 219 images and videos, 169 were computer-generated.

The court heard Kidd had special software designed to conceal his internet history, but police found evidence of key search terms including ‘bestiality’.

After being arrested, Kidd referred himself to sex abuse prevention charity Stop It Now.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child, three counts of making indecent images and one count of possessing extreme pornography.

The court heard he worked as a lorry driver for Asda, but had been signed off with depression.

Mr Khan said Kidd had no relevant prior convictions, and the case had ruined his marriage and home life.

Sentencing, Recorder Nigel Daly said: “There is no doubt you have suffered as a result of this yourself.

“However, making these images mean a child has been subjected to the sort of behaviours depicted.

“If not for people prepared to look at them, that wouldn’t happen.”

He said prison would have little impact long-term, instead making a 24-month community order.

Kidd will have to complete a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 30 days on the Horizon sex offender programme.

The judge made a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and ordered Kidd to pay £500 towards costs.
