A GROUP of sports clubs from around Didcot are set to take over £4m of sports facilities at the town's new Great Western Park estate.

Boundary Park Sports Association, made up of Didcot Cricket Club, Didcot Rugby Club, Harwell and Hendred Youth Football Club, is taking over the lease of both the sports pavilion and pitches, including four full-size rugby and cricket pitches, four tennis courts, and six football pitches.

Didcot Cricket Club are moving to the new grounds from their current location on the site at Didcot A power station, which has been earmarked for redevelopment.

The funding for the building and pitches was donated from Great Western Park developer Taylor Wimpey.

The pavilion was built by Claude Fenton Construction Limited based in Theale, near Reading.

The funding for the new pitches was negotiated by Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire district councils.

Paul Costello, chairman of the Boundary Park Sports Association, said: "Didcot Cricket Club, Didcot Rugby Club and Harwell and Hendred Youth Football Club are large community-focused clubs who had all outgrown their current facilities.

"Taylor Wimpey have provided pitches of the highest quality together with a modern, purpose-built clubhouse.

"Thanks to the trust the two district councils have shown in Boundary Park Sports Association, these three clubs now have a new ground to call home."
