A woman has died after being hit by a train at Didcot Parkway this morning.

Services between Reading, Swindon and Oxford have been disrupted.

British Transport Police spokeswoman Sarah Buxton said: "We received a report just after 11.05am today of a woman being struck by a freight train near Didcot Parkway railway station.

"The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the line is currently closed.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances around what happened but at this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious."

Great Western Railway spokesman James Davis said: "Services are likely to be delayed by over an hour or cancelled.

"Other train companies are accepting GWR tickets and passengers could travel instead to London Marylebone via Banbury or Oxford Parkway.

"We are providing coaches for passengers travelling to Reading and Swindon."

Mr Davis added that a freight train was involved in the incident.

Network Rail is liaising with British Transport Police and the emergency services.
