Demolition specialists have blown up part of the main building at the former Didcot A power station this morning.

Staff from Coleman & Company used explosives to carry out the demolition after warning residents that they may hear the blast during the morning.

People from as far away as Abingdon and Cowley reported hearing the bang.

The A4130 was shut at 9am while the work was taking place and is due to open at 11am

The coal-fired Didcot A power station closed in 2013 and three of its six cooling towers were demolished in July last year.

The entire demolition of the site will be completed by September 2016.
