Controversial housing schemes set for approval

TWO controversial plans for almost 100 homes in Hook Norton will be put to councillors for a decision this week.

Taylor Wimpey wants to build 70 homes in a field north of The Bourne.

And AC Lloyd wants to knock down the DJ Stanton engineering building in Station Road for 28 houses.

The plans have angered many villagers who feel the village cannot accommodate extra homes.

But Cherwell District Council (CDC) planning officers have recommended the authority approve the schemes on Thursday.

A report said while the site had not been earmarked by the council for housing, it would help meet targets.

Some 316 people objected to the Taylor Wimpey plan, to include 30 per cent affordable housing, while seven backed it. Hook Norton Parish Council warned of the impact on Hook Norton Church of England Primary School, roads and habitats.

The meeting is at the council’s Bodicote offices at 4pm.
