RESIDENTS are being urged to tidy up for the 11th annual Community Clean Up event.
Cherwell District Council’s lead member for clean and green Tony Ilott said: “Cherwell has a team of staff who work 365 days a year to keep the district clean for our residents but unfortunately as hard as they try, they can not be everywhere at once. Therefore we are endorsing the theory that many hands make light work and encouraging the people of Cherwell to each give a little bit of time to help make a big difference to where they live.”
Since launching, 32 tonnes of rubbish have been taken off Cherwell’s streets as part of the event.
This year the event will run from Friday, April 10, to Monday, April 27, and the district council will provide those involved with free cotton gloves and waste or recycling sacks.
Litter pickers and high visibility jackets can be rented also. Mr Ilott added: “In addition to making the area better for themselves, volunteers will also help to improve things for the local environment and wildlife. Furthermore, events such as this help to generate real community spirit and provide a sociable way for people to get to know their neighbours making the area a cleaner and friendlier place to live.”
