CHERWELL District Council’s Eco Bicester initiative has been given a European energy award.
The scheme combines a town-wide energy efficiency programme with the building of the eco-town and was awarded the Ace Overall Winner in the energy smart municipalities category.
The awards were announced on November 28 in Amsterdam at the Ace Awards Finals – recognising achievements in renewable and sustainable energy.

Another Cherwell scheme was also successful as Hook Norton Low Carbon won the Energy Neutral Village section.
The Low Carbon group is a co-operative of residents from Hook Norton aiming to provide low-cost funding for energy-saving in the home.
Cherwell District Council leader Barry Wood said the eco-Bicester initiative was using using zero-carbon ideas for the benefit of the whole community.
