FINAL plans for 58 homes in a north Oxfordshire village have been approved.

Cherwell District Council’s planning committee signed off final details of the new development for land north of Station Road, Bletchingdon, on Thursday.

A primary school, village hall and shop will be built along with the homes, 18 of which will be ‘affordable’. Councillors gave the Duchy of Cornwall, permission for the scheme in principle last year.

Full planning permission for the school – which will replace Bletchingdon Primary’s existing building to cope with growing pupil numbers – has already been granted.

It is being built and should be finished during the 2015/16 academic year.

Cherwell District Council’s lead member for planning, Michael Gibbard, said: “Although this was a new application it is not a new proposal as the whole site was given outline planning permission last year.

“Effectively the original application gave us an overview of the plans while this document gave us more information about how the homes, shops, new accesses and ancillary development will be delivered.

“Unlike the rest of Bletchingdon this development lies outside the Oxford Green Belt but we are still mindful of its location.”

Bletchingdon Parish Council supported the plan and one resident wrote to object with concerns including loss of privacy and antisocial behaviour.
