PLANS to build a home on land in Kidlington have failed to win the support of planners after concerns about impact on the Green Belt were raised.

Cherwell District Council’s planning committee is due to rule on plans for land behind Vicarage Road.

The application for one home and an access track is the third of its kind in recent years. Two bids – one for two homes and another for one – were thrown out on appeal in 2011.

Kidlington Parish Council and Cherwell’s conservation department have objected to the proposal, and residents have claimed it is a ploy to gain access for a larger development.

Maurice Billington, who sits on the parish council’s planning committee, said he was totally opposed to the bid.

He said: “The problem is that they have to cross the Green Belt, and that is a big policy reason for refusal. When they first put the application in for two homes, it was refused for this reason and the second bid didn’t address the problem.”

In their letters of objection, residents raised concerns about future development in the area.

Vicarage Road resident Glanville Davies said: “Make no mistake the primary purpose of this planning application is the determination of access via Webbs Way.

“This will facilitate development of the adjacent area owned by Pye Homes, which is 30 to 40 times the area of the site in the planning application.”

Pye Homes managing director Graham Flint was unavailable for comment.
