Two soldiers from Bicester killed in Afghanistan

TWO soldiers killed in Afghanistan on Friday were both based at Bicester.

Corporal Andrew Steven Roberts and Private Ratu Manasa Silibaravi were serving with 23 Pioneer Regiment, the Royal Logistic Corps.

Corporal Roberts was a 32-year-old father of three, born in Middlesbrough.

He had been serving as a section commander in the regiment since 2008.

Private Silibaravi was 32 and was born in Fiji. He joined 23 Pioneer Regiment in 2003.

Both were serving as part of Combined Force Burma, when they were killed in an indirect fire attack on Forward Operating Base Ouellette, in the northern part of Nahr-e Saraj district.

Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said:"They have given their lives defending the UK’s national security.

“Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

“My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the two families, as well as friends and colleagues left behind."

Another sad day for forces families. When will Cameron realise the war is a waste of money, time and most importantly young lives?
Time to bring them all home while they are still alive.

Our hearts go out to the families as Bicester loses two of its own.
I knowit is difficult but we cannot just abandon Afghanistan before the mission is completed. That would be a total waste of the 412 lives lost.

What mission???? We should of never of gone there in the first place. Afghanistan has never been a threat to this country. The saddest thing of this whole mess is that 412 lives were lost, not for this country, but for a corrupt American government. R.I.P to ALL that have lost there lives out there.

Sadly it would appear that not only does Technics know little about the mission in Afghanistan and why British troops are there, but also has a somewhat outdated and ill-informed view of US politics!

You are correct Locall, but for those of us who have our loved ones on active service I find it difficult to sit back and read ill-informed and ill-judged comments by people who's sole aim , for political or whatever purpose, is to undermine the support for our troops, who not only risk but give their lives so we may go about our daily lives safely. We owe our armed forces far more.

Why don't the Yanks just drop the bomb, they done it to the Japanese to finish a war, what is different here?

Yeah and kill more innocent lives! I don't want too offend anyone on here but i'm just glad none of my family or friends are risking there lives for nothing. I'm behind the troops but not this pointless war. I'm not ill informed, i just don't believe or trust our government and we are there because of a corrupt American government, FACT! Sorry but that is the truth and must be dreadful for anyone out there and their families.
