New road opens two years early

A NEW Bicester perimeter road will open next week more than two years ahead of schedule.

Countryside Properties has confirmed that the road, from the new roundabout on the A41 across the new Kingsmere housing estate to Howes Lane, will officially be opened on Tuesday, at 11.30am.

The new road will be called Vendee Drive in honour of Bicester’s twin town Canton des Essarts, in the Vendee region of France.

It has also been revealed that the names of roads in the Kingsmere estate will have a horse or horse-racing theme, because of a historic connection to the land.

Countryside, which is behind the development, has planning permission for 1,585 homes, a hotel, park-and-ride, schools, a pub, a care home, shops, a community centre and a sports village at the site off Oxford and Middleton Stoney roads.

l hope that they will also get on with building the schools, community centre, shops and sports village so that they are ready for when more houses are built, rather than the residents having to use other facilities until the developers eventually get round to building them.
