RESIDENTS at one nursing home received the most precious present of all last week – the gift of time.
Staff and residents at Heathfield House Nursing Home in Bletchingdon celebrated Dignity Action Day on Wednesday with a full day of activities.
The national event aims to ensure people in care are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.
Activities co-ordinator Sarah Osborne said: “It was a fantastic day with lots going on. We had a Caribbean theme, so we had smoothie making, a Caribbean quiz, dominoes and all sorts of activities.”
Residents at the home in Bicester Road also enjoyed a themed meal.
Enjoying themselves on the day were 94-year-old Louise Buxey and Eileen Slatter, 84.
Ms Osborne said: “This was all about giving people time and just being with them. That makes a huge difference to people.
“Everyone joined in. You could see the impact just having a day like this had on them.”
