Tweeting to help fight crime

Tweeting to help fight crime Tweeting to help fight crime

A BICESTER police officer is planning to fight crime with technology as she gears up to use social networking service Twitter in the town.

Sgt Nicki Entwistle, pictured, is fresh from training and will be the first officer in the town to tweet messages to help prevent crime, make appeals or issue warnings.

The idea is that people can be told instantaneously about incidents in and around Bicester.

Sgt Entwistle is urging people to follow her on the Twitter service.

She said: “We already do community messaging, but as people have such busy lives, this is another way of using technology to communicate.

“It will be very much about Bicester and what we are doing, how people can help us, or how we can help them. It’s a good way to get the message out, but I need people to follow me.”

If tweeting proves successful it could be rolled out to other Bicester officers.

Really? How very interesting. Any chance of getting out on the street? Twitter? Does everyone use Twitter? No they don't!

Twatted on patwol? "Tough on Twitter. Tweeting on the causes of crime!"

Better to get on the beat and keep eyes on the street and say "Hullo!" to citizenry, surely?

OK for keeping tabs on the odd illegal rave event, perhaps. But then action's needed to nip it in the bud.

Kudos to the Police, they are often slated for being out of touch with the modern way of life so good on 'em for giving this a try.
Twitter is fairly ubiquitous nowadays so just because some of us have not taken to it that shouldn't prevent the Police using it. After all, not everyone uses a computer but more and more sources of information are available on-line.

"@TVP_bicester - could police officer of OU10 BRX turn off side floodlights...he blinded me on roundabout at 0045 2nd fed. cheers" wow restrictive. He also didn't indicate right on the round about, I thought better than to flash to tell him he had left the floodlights on.
