PANCAKES, cupcakes and all kinds of dinners and vegetable dishes are being conjured up in the new kitchen installed at a village primary school near Bicester.

Students at Finmere Primary School have been enjoying cookery lessons after the new addition of a kitchen corner.

The new kitchen has added a splash of creativity to the school curriculum and was made possible by a donation from parents Jill and John Williamson, supported by the PTA group Friends of Finmere School.

Finmere CofE Primary School headteacher, Caroline Tucker, said: “We decided to redevelop an area of a classroom so we could ensure all our pupils have the opportunity to learn about food and to cook.

“We really embrace the creative curriculum and want our pupils to be able to participate in as many experiences as possible.

“Cookery is a key part of the design and technology curriculum and already all our children have enjoyed baking making cakes to celebrate the opening of our new kitchen space.

“Most recently pupils in Key Stage 1 particularly enjoyed making and eating pancakes too.”

The kitchen was donated by Mr and Mrs Williamson – parents of five-year-old Gabriel – through their business Williamson Chiropractic and Sports Injuries Clinic.

Mrs Williamson said: “We realised cookery is on the national curriculum and there wasn’t much in the school budget for this provision.

“My husband was speaking to a patient who said he would be able to donate a second hand kitchen which we took and recycled for the school.

“We are really happy with it and it looks great Gabriel has been with the school a over a year now and we absolutely love it and is why we wanted to help.”

The school said the response from parents has been overwhelming, with many families offering to help with the kitchen installation.

The Friends of Finmere School group also ensured all plumbing and electrics were paid for.

Future cookery projects for the school include planning and cooking a three-course meal.

Ms Tucker added: “The new space has already made a huge difference and we are immensely grateful for the support."
