A MAN who smuggled cannabis, ‘Spice’, two mobile phones and four SIM cards into HMP Bullingdon has been jailed.

Oxford Crown Court heard yesterday that the haul of banned items were discovered after they were ‘secreted’ by an inmate who had been passed the goods during a visit.

Arfan Bashir, of Castle Hill Drive, Manchester, had already admitted three counts of bringing a prohibited item into a prison on January 16.

The court heard at his sentencing yesterday that the 35-year old had driven to the prison near Bicester to visit an inmate.

He had in his possession 3.42g of cannabis, 20.6g of the drug known as ‘Spice’ as well as two mobile phones and four SIM cards.

Once at the prison near Bicester, Bashir, captured on CCTV, handed the items over to an inmate who was later found ‘secreting’ them before he was collared by prison staff.

His defence counsel said that Bashir ‘regretted’ what he had done and felt he had set himself back.

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle QC, told him the items were ‘prized’ inside prisons and warned him it had been a ‘considerable’ amount of drugs.

He jailed Bashir for a total of 14 months made up of 10 months for the two type-A items – the drugs – and four months for the type-B offence – the mobile phone and SIM cards, to run concurrently.
