THE moment an Oxfordshire photographer met a Namibian tribe and captured his experience on camera has earned him a national photography award.

Jeremy Flint, from Launton near Bicester, captured a Himba woman showing him how they burn incense to cleanse their homes whilst he travelled through Namibia, in southern Africa.

The picture has since taken home the discovery award in the annual Association of Photographers competition.

Mr Flint, an accountant by day, said: “I was on a tour with my wife round Namibia and came across the tribe.

“We basically built up a rapport with this lady and she invited us into her home to show us where she was burning incense as part of a cleansing ritual.”

The 41-year-old said he was pleased to pick up the prize, on top of two previous national awards his work has attracted.

Mr Flint started his photography as a hobby as a bit of light relief while he was undergoing cancer treatment, which he has since successfully completed.

He hopes to continue his passion by moving further into professional photography, and already runs photography tours in Oxford.
