A 12-year-old girl is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a BMW at a crossing in Bicester.

The car was driving along Buckingham Road, away from the town centre in the direction of the Gulf petrol station, at 7.30am on Monday when it collided with the girl at a traffic light-controlled crossing.

She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, for treatment to a serious head injury, where she remains in a serious condition. 

The vehicle stopped at the scene and officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision.

Police today began to appeal for witnesses to the incident. 

Investigating officer PC Duncan Vale, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the pedestrian or vehicle immediately before the collision.

"Anyone with any information which could assist our investigation should contact officers.”
